Mo Yan's citation: In awarding the prize, the Nobel academy described Mo Yan as a writer who with hallucinatory realism merges folk tales, history and the contemporary.
According to the Guardian, Mo Yan is "one of the most famous, oft-banned and widely pirated of all Chinese writers."
