Reliance MediaWorks gets a piece of James Cameron pie

China's film production company Galloping Horse confirmed that it had acquiring Digital Domain Productions, Inc, and certain of its operating subsidiaries, for a price of $30.2 million, together with Reliance Media Works three days after Digital Domain announced the deal, reports caijing.com. 

The web site reports that Galloping Horse America's joint venture, submitted the winning bid in partnership with Reliance MediaWorks (USA), Inc, to acquire the visual effects, Mothership Media and certain other businesses and assets of Digital Domain Productions and subsidiaries at a September 21, 2012 auction in New York. 

This was announced by Digital Domain on September 23, a day before the deal was approved by a federal bankruptcy judge. Digital Domain, the James Cameron-founded digital production company, filed for bankruptcy on September 11, less than a year after it went public. 

Founded in 1993 by director Cameron, Stan Winston and Scott Ross, Digital Domain has provided the innovative visuals for over 90 movies, including Titanic, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, Transformers trilogy and Tron: Legacy.
