Cash-for-subsidy won't wipe out corruption: Roy
November 30, 2012  19:40

Ruing that Sonia Gandhi-led National Advisory Council has been "bureaucratised", activist Aruna Roy today sought to pick holes in the UPA government's decision on cash-for-subsidy scheme alleging it will not wipe out corruption.

Roy alleged that the government was going ahead with such programmes and is not bothered about the increasing level of inequality and injustice in the country.

"What does government want from cash transfers? The scheme is just an excuse and will not wipe out corruption. Cash transfers are okay for salary or pension accounts, but it is not good for services or in public distribution system," she told reporters at the conclusion of 'Jan Sansad' in New Delhi.

Asked whether the scheme was discussed in NAC, she said it was not discussed in the panel and alleged NAC has been bureaucratised to an extent. "We have to take permission to discuss issues."
