Thackeray's ashes on the road to Kanyakumari

Rediff.com's Ganesh Nadar reports that there is a huge traffic jam on Thiruvananthapuram-Kanyakumari Road. Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray's ashes are being taken by road to Kanyakumari. More than a 100 vehicles bearing the Sena flag are part of the rally. The ashes of Shiv Sena patriarch arrived in Thiruvananthapuram today and is being taken in a procession for immersion at Kanyakumari. Thackeray died in Mumbai on November 17 and was cremated a day later.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Kerala unit of the Shiv Sena said Thackeray's ashes would be taken over from party legislator Dipak Sawant by state leader MS Bhuvendran at the airport around 9 am.
From there the ashes would be placed in a special vehicle which would stop for a while in the capital city for allowing people to pay their respects, the statement said.
The ashes would be handed over to Tamil Nadu unit chief on the border before being taken to Kanyakumari for immersion, it said.
