Batch 2: Thackeray's ashes immersed in Godavari

The ashes of late Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray were immersed in river Godavari in Nashik in North Maharashtra today.

The ashes were immersed in the 'asthi kunda', a small holy pond on the bank of Godavari, this afternoon at the hands of Shiv Sena district chief Vijay Karanjkar and other local party leaders.

Earlier in the day, the urn containing the ashes of Thackeray, who passed away in Mumbai on Saturday last, were taken for immersion in a procession.

The procession started from Shiv Sena office at Shalimar Chowk and passed through several areas to reach at the bank of Godavari at around 11.45 am. A small pooja was performed before the ashes were immersed in the river considered the Ganga of the South.

The ashes were brought to Nashik from Mumbai on Tuesday and kept in the Sena office to enable people to pay their respect to the departed leader.

Another urn of ashes were immersed in the Arabian Sea earlier.
