Ranjit Sinha is likely to be new director of CBI

The government is understood to have cleared the name of  Ranjit Sinha as the new director of country's premier investigation agency the Central Bureau of Investigation, reports our correspondent from New Delhi.A formal announcement is expected anytime.

This may bring down the curtain on the most-sought after appointment as all eyes are set on the successor of A P Singh who demits office on November 30.

Ranjit Sinha is the 1974 batch of the Indian Police Service and belongs to the Bihar cadre. He is currently the director general of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police and the seniormost in the panel of three officers, who were under  consideration. S C Sinha, director, National Investigation Agency and Atul Gupta, former director general, Uttar Pradesh were the other two contenders for the director's post.
