Sena demands memorial to Thackeray at Shivaji Park

Former Maharashtra chief minister and Shiv Sena leader Manohar Joshi has demanded that a memorial to party chief Bal Thackeray be built and installed at his cremation venue, the Shivaji Park, next to the memorial to Chhattrapati Shivaji.

"We want his memorial to be built here (Shivaji Park). Why won't the government permit it?" asked Joshi, adding that the party wanted his memorial next to "Chhattrapati Shivaji's memorial".

The Shiv Sena supremo was cremated with full state honours on Sunday evening at Shivaji Park, with lakhs thronging the venue for a last glimpse of the man they both loved and feared. Bal Thackeray died on Saturday afternoon following a cardiac arrest. He was suffering from ailments related to the lungs and pancreas. Read more
