Shinde, Rane not to attend Thackeray funeral

PTI reports: Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde will be unable to attend Bal Thackeray's funeral on Sunday as he needs to stay in Delhi.

An order was issued recently that in the absence of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh from Delhi -- due to his visit to Cambodia from Sunday -- either the defence minister, finance minister or home minister will stay in Delhi, official sources said.

As A K Antony, the defence minister, and P Chidambaram, the finance minister, are away from the capital, Shinde will need to stay in Delhi and not attend Thackeray's funeral.

Maharashtra Industries Minister Narayan Rane, a former Shiv Sena chief minister who broke away from the party, won't attend the funeral as he is abroad.
