Who is Ponty Chadha?

Ponty Chadha or Gurdeep Singh, the sole distributor of liquor in Uttar Pradesh, has hogged the limelight many times before.

The premises of the liquor baron, who is considered close to former UP chief minister Mayawati and even Mulayam Singh Yadav, has been raided by Income Tax and Delhi Police's Central Investigation Unit over allegations of huge sums of unaccounted money at his farmhouse.

However, Chadha also owns several other ventures in the cinema, film making and multiplex sector.

The businessman reportedly owns more than 1,500 acres of prime land in UP of which around 350 acre lies near Sector 18, Noida's prime area.

TV reports suggest that Sunday's shootout at the Chadhas' Chhatarpur farmhouse in Delhi, in which Ponty and his brother Gurbeet were killed, was a result of a property dispute.
