The Communist Party of China has started its week-long Congress in Beijing to elect a new generation of leaders to head the country.

The event will also mark the end of the political leadership of President Hu Jintao and Prime Minister Wen Jiabao.

The CPC Congress is held every 10 years to elect a new batch of leaders. In spite of rampant speculations, names of likely candidates are kept secret. The exact selection procedure or the criterion on which the new leaders are chosen are also kept under wraps.
