Three years after he walked free, Lockerbie bomber dies

Abdel Basset Ali al-Megrahi, better known as the Lockerbie bomber, is dead.Megrahi was the only man found guilty for his role in the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, in 1988.

Megrahi was found guilty of masterminding the explosion, which killed 270 people, and sentenced to life imprisonment. 

But he was released eight years later by the Scottish government when he was found to be suffering from metastatic prostate cancer.Megrahi was a former undercover Libyan intelligence officer.
