Plea against Sachin in RS: No ball, says court

Just in: Delhi High Court refuses to restrain cricketer Sachin Tendulkar from taking oath as Rajya Sabha member.

Yesterday, a Supreme Court vacation bench of Justices Deepak Verma and SJ Mukhopadhaya refused to entertain a petition challenging cricketer Sachin Tendulkar's nomination to the Rajya Sabha.

The bench felt that a remedy, if any, could lie in the High Court, as it allowed the petitioner to withdraw the case and approach the Delhi High Court.

Tendulkar's nomination to Rajya Sabha has been mired in controversy even before the cricket legend set foot inside the Parliament in that capacity.

The plea questioned the validity of Sachin's nomination on the ground that he failed to meet the conditions laid down in the Constitution required for a person to be nominated as an MP.
