Indonesian police have cancelled a Lady Gaga concert in Jakarta, the capital, after extremist Islamists threatened her with violence and said they would disrupt the performance, reports the Times, London.

Although concert organisers have already sold 52,000 tickets and released another 2,000 this week for the sold out gig, the National Police declined to issue the concert a permit today.

"The National Police said verbally that [the concert] would not be permitted," Jakarta police spokesman Senior Commander Rikwanto said. "The letter will be made later."
