The IAS has a shortage of about 30 per cent officers.    Against a total strength of 6,154 IAS officers, India only has 4,377, Minister of State for Personnel V Narayanasamy told the Rajya Sabha. "1,777 posts are lying vacant," he said. UP has the highest number of vacant positions at 216, followed by Bihar (128), MP (118), Rajasthan (112) and
Jharkhand (100).
