Cleric indicted by Pak court for kidnapping policemen

An anti-terrorism court in northwest Pakistan today indicted hardline cleric Sufi Mohammad and 19 others accused of kidnapping policemen and challenging the government's writ in 1995. 

Sufi Mohammad, the chief of the banned Tehrik Nifaz-e-Shariah Mohammedi, and his aides Maulana Khalid and Maulana Safiullah were among those indicted by Judge Syed Asim Imam. After framing formal charges against the accused, the judge adjourned the case till May 15. Police in Khwazakhela area of Swat valley had accused the 19 people of abducting policemen and challenging the government's writ in 1995.
