Early elections if Pranab Mukherjee becomes Prez?

Our sources in Delhi tell us that although Pranab Mukherjee has denied that he is a front-runner for the top post, the question doing the rounds is, who will be the leader of the Lok Sabha in the monsoon session of Parliament?

Probable names include Ghulam Nabi Azad and P Chidambaram, both senior leaders who have been elected to the Lok Sabha five times.

Several Congress MPs also speculate that if Pranab Mukherjee is indeed the next President, it can be safely assumed that early elections to the Lok Sabha are unavoidable because neither Dr Manmohan Singh nor Sonia Gandhi can be firefighting on such a scale and with such alacrity as the finance minister has been doing.
