Even as efforts are on for the release of the kidnapped Sukma district collector, four police personnel were injured today when a group of Maoists allegedly opened fire at a police van in the neighbouring Dantewada district.

One of the injured is reported to be critical. Chhattisgarh Additional Director General of Police (naxal operations) Ram Niwas said here today that while the team of policemen was patrolling in the weekly market held in the Bacheli area of Dantewada, some Maoists fired on their van.

In retaliation, the policemen also opened fire, but the Naxals managed to flee. In the attack, an assistant police inspector, a constable, a police jawan and a Homeguard jawan were injured and the latter is reported to be critical.
