Maoists offer to release 1 Italian for 1 demand met

Update on the five-day old Italian hostage crisis. The Maoists have sent feelers to the Odisha government that they will release one of the two Italians if one their demands are agreed upon. The Maoists have been insisting on the acceptance of their 13-point charter of demands including withdrawal of cases against the ultras. The Maoists made the offer on an audio tape.

 

Paolo Boscusco and Claudio Colangelo, who were abducted by the left-wing extremists on March 14 while they were visiting some areas in the tribal-dominated Daringbadi Tehsil of Kandhamal district.

 

Italian Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi spoke to his Indian counterpart S M Krishna who assured him that the Odisha government was taking all steps to secure their early release.
