Bypoll loss unexpected: Karnataka CM

Karnataka Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda today termed as "unexpected" the BJP candidate's defeat by a huge margin in Udupi-Chikamagalur Lok Sabha bypoll and said the party needs to view the setback
"very seriously".

"Unexpected result has come", said Gowda, who had vacated the seat after becoming the Chief Minister, necessitating the bypoll.

"Of course, we thought that there will be a close fight (between the BJP and Congress candidates)", Gowda told reporters, adding, the huge margin was unexpected and needed to be viewed "very seriously" by the party. Asked about the reason for the defeat, the Chief Minister said it had to be analysed.
