The government today came under sharp attack from the Opposition for the poor attendance of members of the ruling coalition in Rajya Sabha during the
debate on Motion of Thanks to the President's Address, with BJP calling it a "mockery".

Resenting the low turn out of UPA members during the debate, S S Ahluwalia (BJP) said only four of the 70 members from the treasury benches were present. P J Kurien, who was in the Chair tried to pacify the senior BJP leader pointing out that two Union ministers were present and more members would be coming.

"It is a mockery. It never happened. Normally the Leader of the House is present. Where is the mover of the motion? Where is the seconder of the motion. The motion has been moved by the Government and it (the poor attendance) shows the importance being given to the motion," Ahluwalia said.
