The man who gurantees headlines -- AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh --today observed that the murder of IPS officer Narendra Kumar Singh, allegedly by a suspected member of the mining mafia, was a well-planned conspiracy.

"I have no doubt in my mind that the killing of the IPS officer is not a stray incident," he said. Seeking to downplay the Madhya Pradesh government's decision to order a judicial probe into the incident, Digvijay said "nothing much should be read into it".

The 30-year-old IPS officer was allegedly mowed down yesterday by a suspected mining mafia member at Banmore in Morena district when he tried stopping a tractor-trolley carrying stones.

"If Madhya Pradesh government is so serious about inquiring into illegal mining, (then) it should order a probe into all instances of illegal quarrying spanning last 18 years," Digvijay said, adding the eighteen years include ten years when he was chief minister and eight years of BJP rule since 2003.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan refused to offer any comment saying he did not consider Digvijay a "trustworthy" man.
