Indecision on RS chairman, deputy
March 09, 2012  16:44

The UPA 2 nominee for deputy chairman of the Rajya Sabha is likely to be defeated as the strength of the Upper House is with the Opposition, reports our Delhi correspondent.

The UPA 2 may have to reach out to the Opposition for a consensus candidate for the President of India, as well when the elections come up in May. The election for vice president of India is scheduled for August 2012.

The BJP is not fielding a candidate for the post of Deputy Chairman Rajya Sabha, but is keen to give to the state parties like TDP, ADMK and BJP.

Biju Janata Dal candidate Pyarimohan Mohapatra is likely to emerge as a common candidate. The BJP has informally indicated that Prof Ramgopal Yadav, the brother of Mulayam Singh Yadav, will be Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha.
