Mayawati blames BJP, Congress for SP's victory

When asked if the massive corruption allegations against her and her ministers had affected the outcome of the elections, Mayawati dismissed any such possibility.

She claimed that the Congress and the BJP helped the SP achieve such a spectacular win by splitting both the Muslim and upper caste Hindu votes.

While the Congress's promises of a quota for Muslims made the upper caste Hindus vote for the SP, the saffron party's aggressive posturing prompted Muslims to vote for Mulayam Singh Yadav's party as well, she said.
