Sonia meets Pranab, meeting with Antony at 10.30 am

Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee is expected to meet Sonia Gandhi at her 10 Janpath residence today. Defence Minister A K Antony is expected to meet the Congress chief by 10.30 am.

The Congress core committee will hold a meeting in the evening to build a consensus on the presidential candidate.

Insiders said that Mukherjee was upset that Vice President Hamid Ansari was also in the reckoning for the president's post.

Sources in the Congress say that to save its face and end speculation over Prime Minister Manmohan Singh being in the race for President, the party may announce Mukherjee as its candidate by noon.
