Congress: Party cannot spare the PM

That is the first official reaction of the Congress after the the TMC and the SP snubbed its candidatures. Congress spokesperson Janardhan Dwivedi said the party cannot spare the PM. On the names suggested by Mamata, Mulayam, Dwivedi said the party does not accept the names suggested by them and confirmed that Pranab Mukherjee and Hamid Ansari's names had inded emerged after initial talks with allies.

"Sonia Gandhi told Mamata Banerjee that the two names had emerged from the discussions with allies. It does not mean they are our candidates yet," said Dwivedi.
