Prez post: BJP stumped by googly, Left says NO to Somnath
June 13, 2012  20:51
Reacting strongly to the SP and the TMC proposing former Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee's name for the post of the President, the Left Front has ruled out any possibility of supporting the expelled CPI-M leader.

Chatterjee was expelled from the party when he refused to abstain from voting during the trust vote held against the Manmohan Singh led UPA government, in its first stint, over the nuclear deal.

The CPI claimed that mentioning Dr Singh's name for the top post was a political gimmick by Mamata and Mulayam.

Speaker Somnath Chatterjee's candidature was a strict no for the Left Front, said CPI.
