The West Bengal government is contemplating a legislation to claim damage from political parties and individuals for damage to government property during bandhs and agitations.

"Since we are in government we are accountable to the people. We can't tolerate loss of public property by any political party or individual," Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee told reporters here today. She said that the opinion of legal and constitutional experts and senior politicians would be taken on the issue.

When the CPI(M) was in power and had it claimed damages for each time Mamata Banerjee's TMC went on bandhs and hartals, Bengal would not have been in the red.
