The head of the opposition Syrian National Council (SNC) has called for foreign states to arm rebel fighters."We want weapons that would stop tanks and jet fighters. That is what we want," Abdulbaset Sayda was quoted by the AFP news agency as saying at a news conference in Abu Dhabi.

However, the fire which broke out at around 5 pm, was soon put out by the airport fire department and there was no damage to any cargo, airport spokesperson said. 

Four fire engines were rushed to the spot, fire brigade officials said.

A senior police official also dismissed allegations bysome speakers that security personnel misbehaved with womenwhile they were protesting outside Prime Minister ManmohanSingh's residence yesterday.        

"These allegations were false and we have advised TeamAnna leaders to ensure that such provocative speeches were notmade from the dais which could affect law and ordersituation," he said.

Reports said the men killed in the attack were Uzbek militants. The village is located 35 km from Miranshah, the main town in North Waziristan, which is considered a safe haven for Taliban and al Qaeda elements. This was the first US drone strike since the beginning of the Islamic holy month of Ramzan.

In the interview, Modi had refused to apologise for the 2002 post-Godhra riots and instead said he would prefer to be hanged if found guilty. "They have shot the messenger. They are suffering from guilt as they have inducted people like Kalyan Singh and Sakshi Maharaj, who were responsible for demolishing the Babri Mosque, in the party and still there are such elements there," he told PTI.

A group of ultras attacked two SPOs when they were patrolling in a local market at Padia, about 70 km from Malkangiri, and fired at them, Malkangiri Superintendent of Police Akhilesh Singh said.      

The two police personnel returned the fire, but SPO Ajit Sodi, 22, was killed while his colleague Lachma Madkami was critically injured in the attack, he said.      

The injured was admitted to hospital.
