Mumbai: WR motormen go on flash strike
July 20, 2012  17:26
Nearly 450 motormen belonging to the Western Railway on Friday went on a strike demanding the better conditions and the implementation of sixth pay commission, reports DNA.

The motormen strike is likely to cause great inconvenience to the thousands of local commuters during the peak hour, as they rely on local train services in their day to day life.

If the strike continues, Mumbai's lifeline Western line traffic has come to a grinding halt. The strike is expected to affect the movement of rail traffic on the Churchgate to Virar route.

Motormen of the Western Railway have been agitating for the past few months to implement the Sixth Pay Commission, which will ensure that they are above guards in terms of grade pay, maintain the old formula for calculating running allowance and provide for assistant motormen.

However, the Motormen Association has apologised to the common public for being forced to halt work since the government and rail officials were not listening to them
