If it doesn't rain soon, Maharashtra may declare a drought

The Maharashtra government seems ready to declare drought following scarce rainfall across the state so far.

In a report that appeared in DNA daily on Tuesday, a top government source has been quoted as saying that there is no doubt that there will be drought this year.

He said that the state government was keen to declare a drought as soon as possible, but was waiting for a declaration from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) before making an official statement.

"The IMD said it expects heavy rain over the next 10 days which might make up for the deficiency. We have to wait till then," the source said.
