Opposition-backed Presidential candidate P A Sangma today said US President Barack Obama's remarks with regard to the investment climate in India were shameful for the country.

"Barack Obama is directing the government of India what it should do, this is shameful for the country," he told a press conference. Opposition parties have also lashed out at Obama for his remarks that India prohibits foreign investment in too many sectors.

Sangma was in the city to garner support for his Presidential bid and was optimistic about getting tribal votes. "The tribals of the country are grateful to the BJP for supporting me. Independent MLAs met me here and I am hopeful of their support,' he said.
