Defamation case: HC asks Army officers to appear in court

Just in: A Delhi High Court refuses to stay the trial court summons to three Army officers in a criminal defamation case filed by Lt Gen (Retd) Tejinder Singh.

The Patiala House Court has issued summons to Vice chief of Army staff Lt Gen SK Singh, Additional Director General of public information Major General SL Narshiman and Director General of public information staff officer Lt Col Hitten Sawhney.

All the Army officials have been asked to appear in the court on July 20. The officers wanted the court to issue an interim stay on the summons. The plea stated that as serving officers they could not be summoned without prior sanction.
