NDA VP candidate Jaswant Singh is a former external affairs minister. The announcement on the name of Singh, 74, was made after the NDA held a meeting to the effect this morning when all the partners of the alliance, led by the BJP met.

Senior BJP leader LK Advani says the party is not in favour of Hamid Ansari as the vice-presidential candidate as the UPA did not consult them before nominating him.

Senior BJP leaders were of the opinion that the UPA nominee should not be allowed to win uncontested and all Opposition parties should put up a candidate against the ruling Congress-led front.
