Aamir meets PM to end manual scavenging

Aamir Khan met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today to highlight the concerns of manual scavengers engaged in cleaning excreta. Actor turned reformer Aamir apprised Prime Minister of the sorry state in which the scavengers are forced to live in the country.

In a recent episode of his TV show Satyamev Jayate, the 47-year-old actor had focused on the life of over three lakh manual scavengers who do the work of cleaning excreta even today and are considered as untouchables by many in the society.

Aamir says the government has assured action and asked him to meet Mukul Wasnik the minister for Social Justice and Empowerment.
