US eases financial sanctions on Myanmar

In an apparent recognition to the ongoing reform efforts in Myanmar, the US has eased certain financial and investment sanctions imposed on it, but stressed that the country should "continue with its reform process". 

"As these vital economic and political reform efforts move forward, the US will continue to support and monitor Myanmar's progress," the US Department of State said, adding that Washington expects Myanmar to implement measures for "socio-economic development" and protection of human rights, "including political rights and civil liberties".
