July 04, 2012  10:38
The DMK today took its protests against the ruling AIADMK government to the streets of the city.

DMK chief Karunanidhi's daughter Kanizmozhi, his son and party treasurer MK Stalin and his grandnephew Dayanidhi Maran along with 50,000 cadres courted arrest as the party took party in a jail bharo agitation to protest against what it calls the AIADMK's "repressive regime" and "political vendetta."

The demonstrations and courting of arrest were held at 22 locations across the city.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Karunanidhi said, "The 'fill the jails' protest will be held in a great manner ... we are confident about it. The government is also confident about that."

Fifteen DMK leaders have been raided and arrested since the AIADMK came to power.
