Sangma's allegations on Pranab incorrect: Bansal
July 02, 2012  16:30

Parliamentary Affairs Minister P K Bansal, who is the official representative of Pranab Mukherjee for the Presidential elections said he and Home Minister P Chidambaram had met Pranab today.

PA Sangma and the BJP today sought the cancellation of Pranab Mukherjee's nomination as the UPA presidential candidate under the Office of Profit rules on the ground that he is still the Chairman of the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI).

Bansal said Pranab had told them that he had resigned on June 20 from the ISI, a week before he filed his nomination. Pranab Mukherjee will be filing a written reply to the Returning Officer by 3 pm tomorrow, when the nomination papers will also be scrutinised. Bansal added that Sangma's claim was therefore factually incorrect, legally ill-conceived and untenable.
