Elephant tramples two women in three days in Orissa

Another woman was trampled to death by an elephant in Nilagiri area of Balasore district today, two days after a similar incident in the area, prompting villagers to stage a road blockade demanding Rs 10 lakh compensation to victim's family.

According to the police, Gauri Sing (50) was sleeping in her hut at Chaindhar village when the elephant from the nearby Kuldiha forest ransacked the hut and trampled the woman to death.

A similar incident had taken place on January 28 in which an elderly woman was killed in Patna village, also under Nilagiri sub-division.
