Why foreign brands love Aishwarya Rai

Her last celluloid outing was Mani Ratnam's Raavanan (in Tamil; in Hindi it was Raavan), and she opted out of Madhur Bhandarkar's Heroine when her pregnancy was confirmed. 

But if you thought motherhood and the resultant absence from the spotlight would affect Aishwarya Rai's bank balance, think again.

Masala magazine, after a careful study of the actress's endorsements, has concluded that she takes home almost a billion rupees a year from this alone. Domestic brands may not appreciate her overmuch, but for international brands La Rai remains the face of India, it says. 

Longines, the watch brand, for instance says of her: "People across the world love Bollywood films and they go housefull. Wherever we have travelled (with Aishwarya) the response has been overwhelming. She is a global face and we would like to continue this association as long as possible."
