MPLADS funds now allowed for buying NREGA materials

Members of Parliament can now use their Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) funds for taking care of the materials part of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act. 

Minister of State for Statistics and Programme Implementation Srikant Kumar Jena, who holds independent charge, has aided a para to this effect in the MPLADS guidelines for converging the two following representations from MPs, an official announcement said.

The amended guidelines say the convergence of MPLADS and MGNREGA has been allowed to create more durable assets. An MP now may use funds he gets under MPLADS to approve MGNREGA projects, but with the rider that the funds shall be used only in respect of the material component.
