The Pakistan army is likely to have reacted to Prime Minister Gilani's statement criticising army chief Ashfaq Pervez Kayani and Inter Services Intelligence Director General Lieutenant General Ahmad Shuja Pasha over the Memogate probe because it opposed the government's silence on the drone strikes and its lenient stance over NATO supplies' blockade.

In an interview given to "People's Daily Online of China, Gilani had earlier alleged that the responses filed by General Kayani and Pasha in connection with the Memogate probe were illegal and unconstitutional.

Sources said that the military assumes the Pakistan governments flexibility would encourage the resumption of drone strikes.
