Congress sweeps Karbi Council polls

The ruling Congress swept the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council polls in Assam for the third consecutive term winning 15 of the 26 seats, official sources said.

The main opposition Peoples' Alliance for Peace Agreement won nine seats while independents bagged three seats.

The Congress tally, however, came down from the previous 21 with prominent losers including Karbi Anglong District Congress president Sum Ronghang.
