February 29, 2012  13:57

China is mulling an anti-domestic violence law and it is even on the legislative agenda of the National People's Congress in 2012. A statement to this effect was issued by an official from the Commission for Legislative Affairs of the NPC on Monday.

About 24.7 per cent of Chinese women have experienced domestic abuse, according to statistics from the All China Women's Federation. 86 percent of respondents in a survey conducted by the ACWF rights department believe that domestic violence is against the law and a separate anti-violence law is needed for it.
