Thanda third phase of UP polls begin

Polling for the third phase of Uttar Pradesh assembly elections for 56 seats in 10 districts began on Wednesday morning on a dull note with only 8.26 per cent of over 1.75 crore electorate exercising their franchise in the first two hours.  

"Voting began at 7 am for the third phase of assembly elections and 8.26 per cent polling was recorded in the first two hours," election commission officials said in Lucknow. Maximum 12 per cent polling was recorded in Naxal-hit Sonbhadra district, whereas minimum 8 per cent each was registered in Bhadoi and Kaushambi, they said.

The most high-profile of these districts is Amethi (rechristened Chattrapati Shahuji Maharaj Nagar), the parliamentary seat of Congress star campaigner Rahul Gandhi.
