Mumbai bans noisy firecrackers for a month

Rediff.com's Toral Varia reports that the Mumbai police has issued directives prohibiting the bursting of firecrackers in the city for a month beginning February 17 and ending on March 17 as a preemptive measure post the municipal elections tomorrow.

Firecrackers under 125 decibles are allowed. Those flouting this rule will be prosecuted under Mumbai Police Act.
