Guj riots: HC slaps Modi with contempt notice

Just in: The Gujarat High Court issues a contempt notice to CM Narendra Modi on the issue of compensation to riot victims. The court had ordered compensation to 56 petitioners last year and asked why the riot victims had not been provided for. The victims' shops had been burned in the 2002 Godhra riots.

Last week, the Gujarat HC had ordered the government to fund the repair of nearly 600 religious buildings that were targeted during the riots. Modi's government had fought a PIL that asked the state to underwrite the renovation.
