Startling portrait of residents of a California ghost town

Bombay Beach, a haunting documentary is not, contrary to its title, about Chowpatty beach, but about the lost souls who found a California ghost town and made it their home, says the Guardian newspaper while waxing lyrical on the film, and its back story.

'History records that the film's backdrop enjoyed a brief heyday as a 1950s resort, playing host to Dean Martin, Jerry Lewis and Frank Sinatra. It is now parched, peeling and largely abandoned; a collection of derelict houses strung out under the telegraph wires,' it says of the film, which is a startling portrait of the residents of a California ghost town.
