Just in: Direct cash transfer scheme to be rolled out in only 20 districts from tomorrow, says the finance minister. Food, fertiliser, diesel and kerosene subsidies will not be transferred in cash to beneficiaries, says finance minister, P Chidambaram.

The Delhi government will launch the direct cash transfer scheme on the first day of the New Year with transfers for scholarships for students from disadvantaged groups and maternal health schemes. Taking the Aadhaar number scheme to its logical conclusion, those individuals with the UID number will get direct cash as scholarship money and health schemes. Read more
