Modi has hit Cong where it hurts: Gohil, Modhwadia loses
December 20, 2012  13:56
Rediff.com's Sheela Bhatt reporting from New Delhi says Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi has hit the Congress where it hurts -- hard -- by ensuring the defeat of leaders like Shaktisinh Gohil and Arjun Modhwadia.

But Modi will have greater satisfaction when he sees Sonia Gandhi's political secretary Ahmed Patel who is the candidate from Bharuch Lok Sabha constituency swing to the BJP. It's most likely that three seats out of seven held by the Congress in Patel's native district of Bharuch will be going to BJP this year.

South Gujarat has saved Modi this time. The shocker to Ahmed Patel will be compounded because party senior leaders are losing except for Shankersinh Vaghela with whom Patel has a hot and cold relationship.

Modi may have been "successfully contained" at the national level as Finance minister P Chidambaram said today, but in Gujarat there remains no doubt that Modi has successfully contained Congress.#Live-gujarat-results
