Update on the shootout at the Connecticut school where 20 children and six adults were shot down.

Breaking its long silence in the aftermath of deadly shooting at a Connecticut school that killed 20 children, the powerful pro-gun lobby has said is prepared to offer meaningful contributions to prevent such unfortunate happenings.

"The NRA is prepared to offer meaningful contributions to help make sure this never happens again," the National Rifle Association (NRA) said in a statement as a shocked nation wrestled with the issue of reinstating assault weapons ban in the US. Made up of four million members, NRA said it is shocked, saddened and heartbroken by the news of the horrific and senseless murders in Newtown. "Out of respect for the families, and as a matter of common decency, we have given time for mourning, prayer and a full investigation of the facts before commenting," it said. "The NRA is prepared to offer meaningful contributions to help make sure this never happens again," it said.

Hardly the response the family of the victims are looking for.
